"To be conscious in our world today is to be aware of vast suffering and unprecedented peril… The feelings that assail us now cannot be equated with ancient dreads of mortality… Their source lies less in concerns for the personal self than in apprehensions of collective suffering - of what happens to our own and other species, to the legacy of our ancestors, to unborn generations, and to the living body of Earth… That pain is the price of consciousness in a threatening and suffering world. It is not only natural, it is an absolutely necessary component of our collective healing. As in all organisms, pain has a purpose: it is a warning signal, designed to trigger remedial action. The problem, therefore, lies not with our pain for the world, but in our repression of it."

Changing The World In 5 Minutes A Day

A Simple Plan of Action That Works

When I talk to people, many want to take action to support the planet and for humans to live more sustainably, but for some it seems too hard, others don’t know what to do and many are just too busy.

Changing The World In 5 Minutes A Day is a simple plan that individuals, families, flat-mates, community organizations, businesses and the whole country can do.

Steps to take:

  1. Make a commitment to change over the next 12 months
  2. Choose from the list below an area of your life to change eg water
  3. Click on the link and go to the page that gives you lots of ideas on what to do
  4. Write a list of what you are already doing
  5. Choose one, two or three things from the link page that you are happy to do in addition to what you are already doing
  6. Add those to your list
  7. For the next month, take 5 minutes in your day to check that you are doing them
  8. At the end of the month, repeat the process with another area of your life – and keep doing what you did last month
  9. Complete 12 areas over 12 months and while you are doing this, talk to as many people as possible about what you are doing and suggest they start too!
  10. If you run out of my ideas or have great ones of your own, please send new ideas to me for inclusion on this website

Choose an area you want to work on in the next month –

By the end of 12 months, you will have simply and powerfully changed your way of living for the better – not only for you personally, but also for the planet.

To help see how powerful your decisions are, I have included a grid showing what the impact will be for each action –

All great reasons to act.

When I tell people about this idea, they say its manageable. At a time when they feel bombarded by information, taking simple but impactful steps do fit into their way of living and they feel great about positively contributing to our future.
